EQUIPMENT
Young comrade, don’t be discouraged or bogged down by all the different kinds of equipment and uniforms to get. It may seem complicated at first because everything is new, but it will become easier once you learn what’s what. And remember we are here to help you find the right uniform at a reasonable price. That being said, here is a list of required items that you’ll need to hunt down and purchase to be in the Glorious Red Army!
SUMMER UNIFORM (required)
-M40 Helmet
-Side Cap (pilotka)
-M43 Tunic w/ Shoulder Boards (gymnastiorka)
-M43 Trousers (sharovari)
-EM Leather or Leather/Web Belt
-Jack Boots (sapogi)
FIELD EQUIPMENT (required)
-Gas Mask Bag or Rucksack or Bread Bag (one or the other is fine)
-At least one Ammo Pouch (type depends on weapon carried)
-Canteen with Cover
ADDITIONAL FIELD EQUIPMENT (optional)
Other than those few essential items, the rest is up to you. You can go all out and get everything, or you can just stick with the minimum requirements. Unlike their British and American allies, the Russians were not nearly as well equipped, and this should be reflected in your portrayal. It is strongly suggested that you get at least 2 pieces of optional gear, but we let you choose which 2 pieces you think you’ll need.
-Entrenching Shovel with Cover
-Grenade Pouch
-Mess Tin Set (German Style)
-Mess Tin Can
-91/30 or SVT-40 Bayonet with Sheath
-Rain Cape
-Ceramic Cup
-Wooden or Metal Spoon
WINTER UNIFORM (recommended)
Here in Texas it takes a while for the weather to turn cold, but when it does, this makes for ideal Russian Front battles. You’ll want warm clothing, not only to look more authentic, but for sleeping outside in chilly weather.
-Fur Cap (Ushanka)
-Padded Jacket (Telogreika)
-Padded Trousers
-Great Coat (Shinel)
-Snow Camo Suit
-Padded Winter Boots (Valenki)
WEAPONS (one required)
Probably the most important purchase you will make is for your weapon. The neat thing about buying a Soviet rifle, is that there are plenty original ones still around from World War II that you can buy fairly cheap! In war, a soldier’s rifle is an extension of himself/herself. He/she cleans and cares for it just as it were a part of the body. So think about that when you are buying your weapon. That being said, there are several different Red Army weapons available for you to choose:
-91/30 Mosin Nagant Rifle*
-Scoped 91/30 Mosin Nagant Sniper Rifle*
-M38 Mosin Carbine Rifle*
-SVT40 Tokarev Self Loading Rifle
-PPSh-41 Submachine Gun
-PPS-43 Submachine Gun*
SIDE ARMS
-TT33 Tokarev Automatic Pistol*
-M1895 Nagant Revolver Pistol*
MACHINE GUNS
-DP28 Machine Gun (Degyratev)*
